Cops: Two more navy men hospitalised after alleged abuse

IPOH - Another two navy personnel have been allegedly abused at the Sungai Wangi detention room in Sitiawan, and are now receiving treatment at the Manjung Hospital.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the two sailors, both in their 30s, sustained similar injuries suffered by the late Laskar Kelas 1 (Able Rate) Muhammad Lailatulman Mohd Sukri, and Laskar Kelas 1 Nik Muhammad Baihaqy Nik Mat.

He said two more suspects aged 29 and 37, who are naval policemen there, were arrested on Sunday and remanded at the Seri Manjung court.

With the latest arrests, a total of five navy personnel have been remanded.

"The injured victims, also with the same rank (Laskar Kelas 1) sustained injuries to their abdomen. The police are now recording their statements.

"The police will not leave any stone unturned to ensure the case is solved. The police forensic unit, together with a team from Bukit Aman, is investigating the CCTV recording," he told reporters after the state-level Warriors' Day event at the state secretariat building here.

When asked if more arrests are expected in connection with the case, Comm Hasnan said police were still investigating.

On Friday afternoon, Muhammad Lailatulman, 26, and Nik Muhammad Baihaqy, 28, both died at the Sungai Wangi detention room after complaining of exhaustion.

The case was initially classified as sudden death, but was subsequently reclassified as murder following post-mortem examinations which revealed signs of abuse and injuries on their bodies.
